How Americans Succeed in Ruining EVERYTHING!!!

Plantiff: Mr. Joseph Vee

Defendant: American Culture

Charge: Bastardizing an Immortal Statement of Western Literary Tradition

"Let the Plantiff present his case."

"Thank you, your honor. Today, I bring the charges to the jury, against a malicious culprit that has long gone un-scrutinized, and thus demanding just punishment. This culprit, that is, the defendant in question, has a long and torrid history of subjugating the greatest traditions of Western culture to the lowest watermarks of intellectuality. I accuse...THE AMERICAN CULTURE!!!"

Okay, so my grand oration to a global judicial assembly represented by the greatest poets, musicans, and painters in history isn't very likely going to happen. However, my charge still stands. What's it all about? Glad you asked...

From the Commonwealth Shakespeare Company's website:

"Commonwealth Shakespeare Company (CSC) will bring MACBETH, William Shakespeare’s classic tale of smoldering sexuality and unspeakable treachery, free to Boston audiences this summer, in four weeks of performances on Boston Common. "

I had to read that twice. The first time there was the initial reaction of "no, no, no not again." The second time was followed by "well, screw that!"

As most know, I had been planning to see the CSC's production of MacBeth since around March or April. It was a natch'. Afterall, this is my favorite Shakespeare play; I've gushed over it again and again whilst reading, and saw a mighty fine BBC production, t'was time, so I thought, to witness a live theatrical performance. Now, I don't attend much in terms of plays; primarily because of the price, but also because of the quality. Frankly, if it's American, then it has no artistic merit worth stealing away one second of my time. But of course, Shakespeare isn't American, therefore, I needn't worry about Americanism rubbing its ignorant little paws in the mesh. Apparently, I am wrong. Apparently, MacBeth is about "smoldering sexuality." That's just great, we've managed to degrade MacBeth to the level of Temptation Island. Oh, oh, silly me, oh we've managed to throw in "unspeakable betrayal." So now MacBeth is on par with the Red Shoe Diaries....or just as easily Beverly Hills 90210.

I just want to know, how the bloody f**k is MacBeth ladden in smoldeing sexuality? How? And don't give me this half assed post-moderist interpretation that Harvard students and sheltered ninnies from the counrty bumpkin patches of the USA think is all earth shattering and intellectual----because I've got news for you boys and girls, it's not! Give me a systematic reason based upon only the words present in the play and not involving an interpretation that we know was most likely historically impossible for Shakespeare's time........you can't do it can you? Good, now take your copy of Noam Chomsky (pseudo intellectual extrordinare!) that the guy from Revolution Books sold you (along with a push button saying "free blah, blah, blah"), sit down, and shut the f**k up!

I want to know, I want someone to explain it to me why every f**king thing in this culture has to relate to a "smoldering sexuality." Oh, wait a minute, I know why! Because Huxley was right and people are cattle. Have you ever read Brave New World? The easiest way to sedate a population to keep them from thinking, tipping the boat and breaking the system is to over obssess them with sex. "Well I can f**k who I want, when I what and with who I want!" Thus pouts the liberated feminist or Abercrombie boy---yeah, too bad you'll amount to jack f**king s**t in life pal! All you'll ever be is another wheel in the system, another anonymous face and blanket non-entity feeding the system that takes everything away from you...congratulations...have you ever read Paradise Lost?.... It's about the smoldering homosexual attraction of Satan to God...oh, and there's unspeakable treachery...you f**king dolt.

I have a confession to make. As of September 8th I will be willfully celebate for a year. Not to say I haven't had the urges but I've resisted every chance that's come my way, but somewhere around August 15th of last year, I became absolutely disgusted with typical Americans...roughly about three months after having read Brave New World. And all I could see were the methods of mass sedations Huxely talked about, and they're crawling about everyone. I had to make a decision: do I keep compromising my integrity, or do I finally begin to live the philosophy I've preached. I've chosen the latter, because, when you've analyzed the American culture, there is no greater counter-cultural stance I could ever take, and thus I have.
