A Glowing Sign on my Head ?

Many years ago, I was working at a certain place that shall remain nameless. For the most part the job I had sucked, the thing that made it bearable was the great people I worked with.

There was one particular girl who worked there, we were working friends, didn’t hang out after work or anything, but we always got along really well and I liked her a lot. She was a few years younger than I and at the time she had a two year old daughter. We spent a lot of time gossiping during work and at break time we normally sat with the others and talked.

I am remembering one strange day when we went on break and she sat at a different table than everyone else and asked if I would join her. I did. After a few moments of sitting there, she decided to tell me what had happened to her the night before. She said that herself, her boyfriend and her baby had fallen asleep while watching TV on the couch. In the morning they had all woken up in their beds. She could not figure out how they go in their beds and somehow thought that I could explain to her how that had happened. I asked the normal questions like had they been drinking, maybe smoking some pot? No. I suggested that maybe she was too tired to remember having put the baby to bed and going to bed herself. She insisted that there was no way that she and her boyfriend did not remember and that somehow they had been put to bed without actually going there themselves. She seemed extremely upset about this.

What could I say? I remember saying that it sounded really strange. I also remember thinking that they could have been abducted by aliens, but that I didn’t say that. Basically I told her that I had no clue how that happened.

Should I have said that people who claim to have been abducted seem to have had similar experiences? Would that have helped her? If someone told me that I am not sure I would find it helpful. Also, even though she didn’t say it, I got the feeling that she thought something like that may have happened. So in a way I think I was right not to reinforce that, but rather let her investigate and come to her own conclusions.

Really, what do you say to someone with a story like that? Even years later and after all the thinking and writing I have done about ufos, I would be unsure of what to say to her.

That is a problem isn’t it? I don’t and I am sure most others don’t want to scare anyone into thinking they were abducted, especially if that isn’t what happened. Even saying it is possible puts that seed in their minds.

However, I do have to say that now that I know more about abduction experiences, I would have asked better questions than I did then. I would have found out if she had ever had other similar experiences, if she had missing time experiences or anything that would be considered a ufo sighting, or even seen an alien. I suppose if I found a lot of related experiences I may suggest that it is possible that she had been abducted.

Here is the part that still to this day I cannot figure, why did she pick me to tell this to? There were dozens of people that worked there that she could have chosen to tell this to, but so far as I know, I am the only one. She took me aside so that nobody else would hear this story.

I am not going to say that I was totally uninterested in ufo related phenomenon at that time, but I was nowhere near as interested in it as I am now. I was too busy to spend much time thinking about ufos. This was before even The Art Bell show and at most I checked a couple of ufo related books out from the library each year and read them and that was pretty much the extent of my interest and knowledge. Also, I am 100% sure that I had never mentioned anything even slightly related to that interest at work and there was no way she could have known from anything that I ever said that I would be interested in that subject. And yet she knew or at least knew that I wouldn‘t laugh at her or think she was strange.

Maybe it is that obvious, like I have a big glowing sign on my head that says “ufo chick” or something like that? How the heck did she know that? That question will puzzle me until I hopefully run into her some day in the future and get the answer. If by chance she reads this, please email me!
